September

Yes September has been a pleasant month so I have not spent to much time carving. But now the wintery weather is upon us and the urge to get in the shop and undertake some project or other is upon me. I have three that are demanding my immediate attention. A desk and two walking sticks. After that I have decided to get a bunch of rough outs finished and into the painting area.

I would rather start from scratch as it were with my own idea than do a rough out anyway. It is easier to follow your own artistic path than to try to copy someone else's style and plan. The thing is you need to get to the point where you can create your own design. To do that you need to study under various teachers who will teach you their style. From that you can develop your own style which will either mimic your teacher's or go off in a totally different direction.

I hope this finds you all in good health and ready to get to some carving. We meet at the Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford every Wednesday night during the school year. See you there at 6:30 PM in the wood shop. Come join us for some interesting times.
